Kabir Edmund Helminski (born 1947 ) is an American Sheikh of the Mevlevi - Tariqa (Mevlevi Dervish order). He is co-director of the Book Foundation in the United States of America. He is the founder of the Threshold Society . Helminsky translated many works of the Islamic mystic Jalal ad-Din ar-Rumi into English. He received an honorary doctorate in literature from the Selçuk Üniversitesi in Konya .

He was one of the 138 signatories of the open letter A Common Word Between Us & You , the leaders of Islam , to "Leaders of Christian Churches, everywhere... ") sent (October 13, 2007).

In 2009 he was included in the Prince al-Walid bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University and the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center of Jordan list of the 500 most influential Muslims .
