Barbara Winkler was born to Vincent and Mary Broll Biela on Dec. 1, 1923, in Karnes County. She married Peter J. Winkler on Oct. 23, 1945, in Cestohowa. A member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Cestohowa, she was also a member of the church’s Altar Society. Barbara was a loving homemaker and helped her husband with farming and ranching.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Diana Winkler; her son, Walter Winkler; four brothers, Edmund Biela, Leonard Biela, Chester Biela, and Archie Biela; and two sisters, Sylvia Pollok and Mary Moczygemba.
She is survived by her daughters, Joane Herndon and husband Bill of Corpus Christi, Jeanette Kluck and husband Michael of Houston, Nadine Krawietz of Temecula, Calif., and Karen Jehnsonne and husband Marty of Houston; a brother, Fabian Biela of Karnes City; and sisters Christine Winkler of Cestohowa and Irene Kruize of Minneapolis, Minn. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Scott Foster and wife Tammy, Clay Herndon and wife Tiffany, Brad Szalwinski, Dylan Krawietz, and Nichelle Szalwinski; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Foster and Laurel Foster.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, in the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Cestohowa.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in the church, with the Rev. Andrzej Waszczenko, SDS, as celebrant.
Interment followed in the Cestohowa Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Scott Foster, Clay Herndon, Michael Kluck, Dylan Krawietz, Brad Szalwinski, Nichelle Szalwinski, and Marty Jehnsonne.
