Congruity of Faith Science & Quran
The Qur'an encompasses all the faculties of human activities. It has an inimitable, unique way of Balaghat, a poetic revelation of human life. It hints about scientific phenomena and events- both macroscopic and microscopic. The Qur'an narrates a number of natural phenomena that were unknown to humankind at the time the Qur'an was revealed. It contains a number of previously unknown facts of the natural world, embedded in a language that carries a universal message. These facts have been a consistent source of intellectual challenge to us down the ages. Fourteen centuries of growth in human knowledge through research in science and technology has shown that whatever the Holy Book has stated about the mysteries of Nature is entirely true. The Qur'anid truths were revealed to us through an unlettered Prophet who could not read, write or even sign his name. So it could well be that the Qur'an is a divine revelation by Allah. The following are a few instances of verses that in the Qur'an exhibit miracles' that have been re- flected in recent discoveries. The existence of more than one world: "Praise be to Allah the Lord of all Worlds" (Fatiha 1:1). This is the first verse of the Qur'an, which informs the presence of the worlds other than our planet Earth. The phrase "Lord of the Worlds" appears 73 times in the Qur'an. Today, we know with the help of astronomical instruments that there are other planets besides the Earth. This was revealed to the Prophet long ago before the invention of modern optical instruments. The origin of universe: "Have they not who disbelieve seen that the heaven and earth were joined together, then we parted them" (Ambiya 21-30). In this verse Allah has revealed a mystery that was unknown to the greatest physicists and astronomers. The Holy Boo explains the creation of the universe by the use of the word fataq or fission and rataq or fusion. Fatag means the breaking and separation of a body and rataq is the process of fusing or binding together of the bodies into a homogeneous mass. So the heavens and the Earth, in the beginning, must have been one entity and subsequently, they were separated. The 'Big Bang' theory of creation of the universe corroborates the revelation of the Qur'an, according to which 200 million years ago the universe was created with the explosion of a single extremely condensed state of matter. The Nobel prize in 1977 was awarded for this discovery, something that was revealed 14 centuries ago by the Qur'an. "He comprehended in his design the heavens when it was a smoke" (Fussilat 41:11). This verse indicates that the heavens densed matter as arising from empty space. It reveals the picture of other galaxies being formed by condensation of spiralling celestial cosmic 'mist'. Mist means a cool and tranquil spray of water whereas the word 'smoke' used in the Qur'an implies a hot gaseous mass. The expansion of the universe: "With power did we construct the heavens varily; we are continuously expanding it" (Zariat 51-57). Expansion of universe is now observed and established by radiotelescopes. This has given rise to the Hubble Constant Theory by which we can measure the expansion of the universe. Before the revelation these phenomena were mere mysteries. Science today considers them to be realities. The revelations came to us by the Nabe-e-Ummi.
