By Grace of God and Guru You Can Kindle Inner Energy

What is shaktipat or descent of grace? How does it affect us? Grace is the highest element that exists throughout the universe: Because of grace volcanoes erupt and mountains are created. The earth itself wants to reveal its joy. Because of grace, there is such beauty in Nature, in human beings and in animals: Because of this grace compas- sion pervades all. A subtle alchemy takes place when God's love arises in your heart. Grace is nothing but the Self; it is that divine energy. The work it can do is far greater than we can accomplish just through the mind or the intellect. THE When grace mani- fests itself in our bodies we feel very expanded. We feel we can envelop the universe... In that state there is a greater ability to do things, and it happens naturally When initiation takes place, the guru transmits her own fully awakened, conscious energy into the disciple. Through this action, the guru ignites the same Kundalini energy that lies dormant in the disciple. When a disciple receives shaktipat diksha, the sushumna nadi, the central channel of the subtle body, starts unfolding from the base to the spine to the crown of the head, and it is startled into wakefulness. And I like to use the phrase 'you are startled into wakefulness' - whether it's subtle or dynamicbecause that's how I experienced shaktipat. And that's when joy begins to reveal itself in a seeker... It is your destiny that brings you to a guru to receive shaktipat, but then you must make the right effort to cultivate necessary virtues. With this partnership, you conserve the energy that has been awakened within you so that it can transmute all your inferior qualities into sublime ones. Why is the guru-disciple relationship vital to Siddha Yoga? The essence of the guru disciple relationship is the guru's compassion. It is limit less and unfathomable. It is subtle yet infinitely powerful. It takes a disciple across the ocean of birth and death. As much as the guru's grace is abundant, the disciple's grace must be generous too for the eternal bond between the guru and disciple can flourish. A true guru wishes only the best for her disciple, only the disciple's uplift. A guru doesn't make a person weak and keep him under her control. Instead, she frees him from depen dency. The job of a guru is not to bind a disciple, but to introduce him to freedom of Self. When you have humility and God becomes your whole life, you offer everything to Him. Everything is offered to one place, to one Principle, to one God. This is the sadhana of discipleship... It does not involve becoming someone else's slave or servant. It involves the way we conduct ourselves in every situation and circumstance, at every moment, with everyone. The sadhana of discipleship is the sadhana of life itself
