All of us have heard of the Epicurean philosophy, ‘Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow you may die.’ But this self-serving consumerist culture often leads us nowhere. Those who follow this philosophy become just so obsessed with their pursuits of material comforts that it begins to consume them. Materialistic pursuits drive them to act selfishly. They are unable to spare any thoughts for other fellow human beings. They reach a point when they forget the higher purpose of their life.
We must always remember that we are the highest form of God’s creation. We have been bestowed with sense, reason and intellect by God. God created Man ‘on purpose’ and ‘with a purpose’. We should be driven by this thought.
So, we should ever be thankful to the Almighty for giving us this life. At the same time, we should also strive to alleviate the miseries of the less fortunate ones. We must justify God’s trust in us by ensuring that we never deviate from the moral, upright path He wants us to travel. So, we must continue to evolve, spiritually to be able to meet His expectation from us.
It is said, “What we are is God’s gift to us. What we become is our gift to God.”
