Learning  Concentration At Early Age.

Veena Shenoy

Concentration is a prerequisite for personality development Parents often complain that their children lack concentration. In the great epic Mahabharata, Guru Dronacharya, the teacher of Kauravas and Pandavas, was teaching his students archery. He asked them to hit the eye of a bird sitting on a tree. First, he calls Yudhishthira, the oldest among all of them, to hit the eye of the bird and asked him what he could see. Yudhishthira answered that he could see the tree, the branches, the bird, and its eye. Drona did not let him hit the target and asked him to step aside. Similar answers came from the others. Finally, Arjuna came and said that he cannot see anything except for the bird’s eye. Drona immediately asked him to shoot and Arjuna made the perfect shot.

When the others asked him why they were not given a chance, Drona explained that they lacked concentration, and hence could see all the things surrounding the target. This lesson on concentration should be taught to children at an early age. It often happens that when children are studying, the house is chaotic. But only a peaceful atmosphere at home is conducive to developing concentration.
