Have you ever wondered what is in store for the soul after death? Just the thought of it causes anxiety in people. That is one of the reasons why salvation (moksha) is considered the ultimate aim of life for many people.
Believers are unanimous in their opinion that death is not the end of life. Some die during their infancy, some others face instant death at the prime of their youth and others, later in life. Lucky are those who die peacefully, at the end of a fully lived life.
But many people think perhaps we are here to live longer. In the Mahabharata, there is a mention of a Yaksha who had asked Yudhistra, one of the five Pandva brothers, (whom we also call Dharamraj Yudhistra) what the greatest wonder on earth is. Yudhishtra replied that we see others dying around us everyday and yet we think we are immortal.
The body dies, but not the soul. So, death is not the end of life, but the beginning of another birth and then death.
The cycle continues until one attains moksha. They say that there are three ways to seek salvation, and be free from the cycle of death and birth —Bhakti Yog, Gynan Yog and Karama Yog. Yet, we remain ignorant. This world is Maya (illusion) and we are yet to come out of it. So, live it well.
