India will never bow to any form of terror PM on Pahalgam attack anniversary

Marking one year of the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the victims “will never be forgotten” and asserted that India would remain firm against terrorism.

In a post on X, Modi said the country stands united in grief and resolve. “Remembering the innocent lives lost in the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack on this day last year. They will never be forgotten. My thoughts are also with the bereaved families as they cope with this loss,” he wrote.

He said that India would not yield to terror. “As a nation, we stand united in grief and resolve. India will never bow to any form of terror. The heinous designs of terrorists will never succeed,” the PM added.

The April 22, 2025 attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam had triggered national outrage and a strong security response.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, however, raised questions over accountability and foreign policy in his post on X, while also remembering the victims. “April 22 will always remain a day of pain for every Indian. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families,” he said.

He referred to the killing of a local pony handler who tried to save a tourist, calling it an act of bravery that should be remembered.

Ramesh also pointed to the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor’s reported admission of an intelligence failure, asking what action followed. He said that although the attackers were later neutralised, concerns remain over lapses and response.

The Congress leader further criticised the government’s foreign policy approach, stating that Pakistan, despite internal instability and global criticism after past terror incidents, appears to have regained international space. He questioned whether there would be any course correction.

Following the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. According to official statements, nine major launchpads linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen were hit, with over 100 terrorists killed.

The strikes led to a four-day military confrontation, including drone activity and cross-border shelling. Indian forces carried out retaliatory strikes on key installations, including radar sites in Lahore and areas near Gujranwala.

The escalation ended on May 10 after Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations reached out to his Indian counterpart, leading to a ceasefire.
