Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, V K Birdi chaired a security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR), Kashmir, to evaluate and finalise arrangements for forthcoming events in the Valley. Senior officers attended the meeting.

A police spokesman said the meeting primarily focused on reviewing security preparedness in anticipation of the upcoming events. Deliberations emphasised the need to further strengthen the existing security framework and optimise deployment at critical and sensitive locations.

The IGP directed officers to intensify surveillance on anti-national elements and enhance area domination in their respective jurisdictions. He stressed the need to reinforce security around vulnerable installations, including prominent tourist destinations, to ensure a safe environment for visitors. He also called for strict surveillance along inter-district boundaries to prevent any suspicious movement.

Special directions were issued for effective traffic management in Srinagar, with instructions to implement a comprehensive plan aimed at easing congestion, ensuring smooth vehicular movement and minimising inconvenience to the public.

“Kashmir IGP also reviewed preparedness related to Hajj arrangements, directing officers to ensure adequate security, facilitation and coordination at all designated points to guarantee the safe and orderly movement of pilgrims,” the spokesman said.

Birdi instructed district heads to maintain strict vigilance over social media platforms to curb the spread of misinformation that could adversely affect public safety and order. He also called for intensified cordon and search operations, particularly in sensitive areas across the Valley and along national highways.
