High alert in Jammu after terror sightings along IB
A high alert has been sounded in the Jammu region following reports of suspected terrorist movement in the border districts of Samba and Kathua in recent days.
Two separate sightings were reported on April 11 and April 13, prompting massive search operations by the Army and police after locals alerted security forces.
In Samba, operations were launched in Pangdour and along the Basantar Nallah, areas often used by infiltrators to avoid detection.
A local resident at an animal farm reported suspicious movement in Pangdour at around 8.30 pm on Saturday. Police also set up checkpoints on nearby roads.
On Monday, security forces launched a search operation in the Rajbagh and Ramkote areas of Kathua district following reports of movement of suspected terrorists.
The movement of two armed individuals carrying heavy backpacks was reported from Sufain village towards a forested area in Rajbagh. Police and CRPF personnel launched searches, but no suspects were found.
Search operations were also conducted in Panjtirthi, Bhini Nallah, Barota and Aglidhar in Ramkote.
Intelligence inputs suggest that terrorists stationed at launch pads across the border in Pakistan may attempt infiltration. In the past, infiltrators have entered through the International Border and moved towards the higher reaches of the Jammu division.
Kathua district serves as a strategic entry point, providing access to Doda, Udhampur and Samba, as well as adjoining areas of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. After infiltration, terrorists often use forest cover to move towards Doda and Kishtwar.
Given the presence of key Army and strategic installations in Kathua and Samba, security forces have intensified operations to trace and apprehend the suspects.
