Search operation launched for two suspects in Samba

A search operation was launched after suspicious movement of two individuals was reported in a village near the International Border in Samba district of Jammu division, officials said on Sunday.

The searches were carried out by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police, Border Security Force (BSF) and Army in Pangdour forest area and Basantar Nullah in the district.

Reports suggested that a caretaker at an animal farm reported movement of two unidentified individuals at Pangdour around 8.30 pm on Saturday, prompting a swift response by the security forces.

However, the suspected persons could not be traced but a party of SOG reportedly noticed the same individuals moving towards SIDCO forest around 1.30 am and challenged them but they escaped.

Accordingly, reinforcements from police and Army rushed to the scene and cordoned off the forest area for a thorough search operation which was continuing when last reports were received.

BSF also joined the search operation focusing on Basantar Nullah close to Pangdour after which checkpoints were set up at Khoon village to search vehicles plying on the route.

The security forces have heightened vigil in the forest areas and along the borders in the region.

Recently, the General Officer Commanding of White Knight Corps, Lt General PK Mishra visited the general area Potha in Rajouri sector to review the operational preparedness and security grid. He was briefed on the prevailing security situation, ongoing counter-terrorism operations and synergised coordination with other security agencies to maintain a robust and responsive grid.
