Congress took locals land handed it to infiltrators says PM in Assam

During his visit to Assam on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a “roti, beti, maati” swipe at the Congress, saying the party had snatched the land of local Assamese people, and handed it over to “infiltrators”.

In separate comments, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said “infiltrators” should be made to feel so unwelcome that they leave on their own.

“We do not have the means to send off 70 lakh people. So the approach is to make them feel unwanted and unwelcome, so that they leave on their own,” the CM said.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stones for development projects worth Rs 19,480 crore in Guwahati, and released PM Kisan Samman Nidhi of over Rs 18,000 crore to farmers across the nation. Modi said the Congress’ “sins” had become a danger for India, and Assam.

“Their actions have endangered roti, beti, maati. The Congress’ hand has always been with infiltrators. For decades, the Congress did not give legal land documents to locals. (They) gave away land of tribals to infiltrators. The situation was scary in Dhubri and Golpara. Demographic balance was being harmed. Social tensions were rising. The campaign is on in Assam to liberate local land from infiltrators’ hands,” the PM said, referring to the land documents Sarma’s dispensation has been handing to locals.

Addressing a rally during the visit, the PM said Assam was playing a major role in achieving the country’s commitments pertaining to renewable energy. “Assam is, today, becoming a model for the new future of our Northeast. The progress here is giving new momentum to the entire Northeast,” he said.
