Partial bandh against Khamenei s killing in parts of Jammu region
Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts in Jammu division witnessed a partial bandh on Monday against the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a US–Israeli military strike.
Some peaceful protests were also reported from the region in the presence of heavy security deployment by the administration to prevent any untoward incident. Officials said the overall law and order situation remained by and large peaceful, with no major incident reported from anywhere.
While traffic continued to ply normally, most markets in Doda and Kishtwar remained shut in a peaceful manner. Both Hindu and Muslim communities in the region kept their business establishments closed. Shops and other business establishments in Ramban were also closed, with district headquarters and other major towns observing the strike.
Massive protest demonstrations were witnessed in areas of Jammu division like Ramban and Poonch districts. Protesters raised slogans against the US and Israel over the strikes on Iran and the killing of its Supreme Leader.
Imam of Jamia Masjid Kishtwar, Moulvi Farooq Ahmad Kachloo, led a peaceful protest rally from the place of worship to the nearby bus stand. Protesters chanted slogans against the US and Israel before dispersing peacefully. Reports of strike and peaceful protests were also received from Bounjwa, Drabshall and Chatroo in Kishtwar, and Gandoh and Bhaderwah in Doda.
In Ramban district, which also falls in the Chenab valley region, Shia mourners organised special prayers at Chanderkote for the second consecutive day to pay homage to Khamenei and others who lost their lives in the US-Israel attacks.
Meanwhile, members of the Muslim community also held protests at different places in Rajouri and Poonch districts against the killing of the Iranian leader. Several Muslim organisations have called for a Rajouri bandh on Tuesday following a joint meeting at the local Jamia Masjid.
President of the Islamic Welfare Organisation, Rajouri, Shafqat Mir, while speaking to the media, said the United States and Israel had crossed all limits of humanity by directly targeting Iran and killing its Supreme Leader. “To condemn this, we have given a call for bandh on Tuesday. This is not a call given by only Muslims but also by our Hindu brothers,” he said.
