Search operation launched after drone movement detected in Poonch

Security forces opened fire after detecting suspected drone movement near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district on Friday.

The drone activity was reported in Gulpur village along the border fence. According to officials, soldiers heard a buzzing sound and subsequently observed a suspected unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the area, prompting them to fire as a precautionary measure.

A search operation was launched immediately after the incident. In recent years, drones have been used by militant groups to drop weapons, explosives and narcotics along the border. Such consignments are often retrieved by overground workers (OGWs) linked to militant outfits.
