IGP reviews security in Kashmir ahead of Vice President s visit
VK Birdi, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, on Friday chaired a high-level security review meeting to assess preparedness ahead of the forthcoming visit of the Vice President to the Valley.
According to a statement, senior officers from the Police, Army, CRPF and intelligence agencies attended the meeting to finalise comprehensive security arrangements for the VVIP visit.
Detailed security plans were presented and reviewed. The IGP stressed heightened alertness to counter potential terrorist threats and underscored the need to strengthen intelligence-gathering mechanisms, reinforce security at vulnerable locations and ensure effective area and night domination. Special emphasis was laid on securing critical infrastructure and vital installations. The strategic deployment of counter-insurgency teams and quick reaction teams (QRTs) was also discussed to ensure a swift response to any emerging situation.
Birdi directed officers to enhance security measures across both urban and rural areas, intensify round-the-clock patrolling and strengthen surveillance at key entry and exit points. He also instructed that personnel be thoroughly briefed on standard operating procedures (SOPs) and that vulnerable areas be closely monitored to enable prompt action against suspicious activity.
Officers reaffirmed their commitment to coordinated implementation of the security plan. Concluding the meeting, the IGP reiterated the collective responsibility of all forces to maintain a secure environment during the VVIP visit.
