A week after a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist was neutralised by security forces in Kathua district, the Army has announced that a Sepoy of the Sikh Light Infantry (SIKH LI) was responsible for eliminating the terrorist.

General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army’s Western Command, Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, visited Kathua to commend the soldier for his role in the operation.

Without disclosing the identity of the soldier, Western Command said in a post on X: “Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, Army Commander Western Command, visited the Bani-Macchedi sector, Kathua, and congratulated Sep XXX of the SIKH LI Regiment who had eliminated a dreaded JeM terrorist in a close encounter risking his own life.”

The statement added that the Army Commander “complimented the whole team for the relentless pursuit of the terrorist over several days and the surgical execution of the operation.” Lt Gen Katiyar was also briefed by the Brigade Commander on plans for continued domination of the area.

According to the Army, JeM terrorist Usman was eliminated during Operation Parhetar at Parhetar village in Kathua district on January 23 at around 5 pm.

Interestingly, the Jammu and Kashmir Police had earlier claimed that the terrorist was killed by a small police team during a joint operation.

Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, had stated in a post on X on January 23: “A Pakistani Jaish terrorist has been neutralised by a small JKP team in a joint operation with the Army and CRPF in the general area of Billawar, Kathua district.”
