JeM terrorist killed in Kathua encounter
A Pakistani terrorist, hiding in a forest area of Billawar in Kathua district, was neutralised by security forces on Friday. The slain militant is believed to have been part of a larger Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group that security forces had been tracking for several days. Confirming the development, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, said, “A Pakistani Jaish terrorist has been neutralised by a small J&K Police team in a joint operation with the Army and the CRPF in the general area of Billawar, Kathua district.”
Officials identified the deceased terrorist as JeM commander Usman alias "Abu Maviya". They said that a large quantity of arms and ammunition, including an M4 automatic rifle, were recovered from him during the operation in a remote village. The operation, code-named Operation Parhetar, was launched after specific human intelligence inputs indicated the presence of the terrorist in the area. According to officials, the terrorist had earlier managed to evade security forces during previous encounters. He was part of a JeM group that had been operating across mountainous districts of the Jammu division.
The Army said the joint operation was initiated following a intelligence input. The Army’s Rising Star Corps said, “Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation was launched by the Army and police on January 23 in the general area of Parhetar, Kathua. The area was cordoned off and contact was established. In a precise strike by the forces, one foreign terrorist was eliminated.”
Security forces have continued search operations in the area to track down other members of the group, despite inclement weather conditions.
