Doda tragedy Army jawan Mohit Chauhan cremated with full honours in Jhajjar

The mortal remains of Mohit Chauhan, 26, one of the ten Army personnel who lost their lives in a tragic road mishap in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, were consigned to flames with full military honours at his native Gijarodh village on Saturday. The accident occurred on Thursday when an armoured troop carrier skidded off a narrow mountain road.

Mohit’s younger brother lit the funeral pyre, as a large number of people from all walks of life gathered to pay their last respects. Former minister and BJP national vice president Om Prakash Dhankar was among the prominent personalities present on the occasion. Earlier, Mohit’s body reached the village in an Army vehicle, adorned with flowers. Youths riding two-wheelers escorted the vehicle, raising patriotic slogans such as “Mohit bhai amar rahe,” “Bharat Mata ki Jai,” and “Jab tak suraj chand rahega, tab tak Mohit tera naam rahega.”

Army personnel fired ceremonial shots in the air to salute the fallen braveheart.

Mohit is survived by his parents, wife, and younger brother. He joined the Army over five years ago. His last visit to the village took place in November, after which he returned to duty in Jammu in December. He celebrated his first wedding anniversary in November, and his wife is over two months pregnant.

“Mohit remained deeply passionate about Army service and always motivated village youth to join the forces during his leave visits. He guided them in preparation for written and physical examinations. Following his inspiration, several youths recently joined the Army as Agniveers,” said Naresh, Sarpanch of Gijarodh village.
