Indian Pak troops exchange brief gunfire along LoC in Keran sector

A brief exchange of fire was reported along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Keran sector, sources said on Wednesday. According to sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Kupwara district when Indian Army personnel were installing CCTV cameras to strengthen surveillance in the area.

“While work was underway to enhance surveillance around the Bala Keran village area, Pakistani troops fired a few rounds in the air,” a senior official privy to the developments said. The official added that Indian troops responded with a retaliatory shot.

Sources said the situation remains peaceful in the area and that no further incidents have been reported since Tuesday.

The Army had not issued any official statement on the incident till Wednesday evening.

However, when contacted, Srinagar-based Defence PRO Lt Col Manoj Sahu said that no ceasefire violation had taken place in the area. “I have been informed that nothing has happened in the area,” he said.
