Three suspected terrorists sighted in Samba massive search operation launched
A massive search and combing operation was launched in Samba district on Wednesday morning after three armed suspected terrorists were reportedly sighted in the Mansar area. According to officials, a joint operation was initiated by the Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police following information provided by a local labourer. The labourer, a resident of Udhampur district, informed police that he had spotted three armed men carrying backpacks in a forested area. The eyewitness told police that one of the suspects was seated while the other two were standing with weapons in their hands. The Mansar area comprises hilly terrain with dense forest cover, making it conducive for militants to hide. The location where the suspects were seen is not far from Majalta, where an encounter between terrorists and security forces took place on Monday evening, resulting in the death of an SOG personnel. Security agencies suspect the same group of ultras may be involved in both incidents.
Senior police officials rushed to Samba to oversee and coordinate the search operations. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu–Samba–Kathua range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, along with Kathua SSP Mohita Sharma and Samba SSP Varinder Manhas, reviewed the ongoing operations in the region. The DIG also visited Kamla Top in Billawar area of Kathua district.
Security forces have intensified surveillance along routes leading to the tri-junction of Kathua, Udhampur, and Doda districts to prevent any movement of militants.
During the review, the DIG emphasised maintaining peace and security in the region and directed officers to remain extra vigilant. He stressed the need for robust coordination among security agencies, enhanced intelligence gathering, and timely sharing of information to counter potential threats.
He reviewed the deployment and directed that additional forces be mobilised in sensitive and vulnerable areas to prevent any untoward incidents. The DIG also stressed the significance of intelligence gathering and timely sharing of information to prompt any security threats. He also reviewed the performance of the on ground duties of the jawans.
Sharma instructed the officers to maintain high visibility in their respective jurisdictions and ensure that security checks and patrols are intensified.
Kathua SSP briefed the DIG about the present security scenario and measures taken for maintaining peace, law and order in Billawar. A joint meeting with Army officials was also held to ensure seamless coordination.
