Teen arrested for suspected terror links from Bathindi was readied for suicide bombing

A teenager from Reasi district, who was recently arrested from the Bathindi area of Jammu for his suspected links with terrorists, was allegedly being radicalized by Pakistan-based handlers to carry out a suicide attack in the region, the Excelsior has learnt from the sources. They said the accused, identified as 19-year-old Mohammad Sajid, a resident of Reasi, who was presently living in Bathindi and preparing for the NEET examination, has also told the investigators that he was in regular contact with several other youths based in Kashmir, Kishtwar, Nepal, and other parts of the Union Territory.
These individuals were part of a larger network operating under the directions of handlers based across the border in Pakistan, sources said.
They further said that through this chain of operatives, Sajid was instructed to collect explosive material from Kashmir for carrying out a suicide bombing in the Jammu region.
“However, before he could take further steps, a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Police Component Jammu arrested him from Bathindi on the evening of November 26, thereby foiling a major terror plot of the adversary,” sources said.
Meanwhile, it has also been learnt that the investigation in case FIR number 331/2025, initially registered against Mohammad Sajid under Section 113(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Bahu Fort, has now been taken over by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP)-led panel of the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The new investigating team has also invoked provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) to enable a deeper probe into the case, sources said.
Sources further disclosed that Sajid had been in frequent contact with his handlers for nearly three months through encrypted platforms such as the Session app, as well as WhatsApp and Instagram.
“Although he had not been assigned any specific target in Jammu so far, he was reportedly asked to keep surveillance on certain locations and was gradually indoctrinated to execute the attack,” they said.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that he was unaware of the serious legal and personal repercussions of his actions.
Pertinently, the DySP SOG-led panel is currently investigating multiple aspects of the case, including identifying and arresting other individuals involved and uncovering the broader objectives and network behind the conspiracy.
