SIA raids in Srinagar, Ganderbal in white-collar terror module case

The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Friday carried out raids in Srinagar and Ganderbal districts in connection with the case related to posters carrying threats to security personnel that led to the uncovering of the white collar terror module with links across different states.

The white collar terror module refers to professionals, including doctors, who have been radicalised and allegedly involved in the November 10 Delhi blast.

The early morning raids were carried out by the SIA in Srinagar and Ganderbal districts in central Kashmir, including at the residence of Tufail Niyaz at Diyarwani area of Batamaloo locality of the city here, they said.

Niyaz was arrested by the SIA last month in connection with the white collar terror module case. He is accused of providing the weapon that was recovered from the locker of one of the accused doctors at Government Medical College, Anantnag, in South Kashmir.

In October, J&K Police had registered a case after Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) posters, carrying threats to security personnel, had appeared at several locations in Srinagar’s Bunpora Nowgam. As the police picked up suspects, they uncovered a terror module with links across different states. During investigations, it turned out to be a module of Al-Qaida affiliate Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.

Recently, Jammu and Kashmir Home Department transferred the case to the State Investigation Agency, which is working to unearth the conspiracy and the wider terror network operating in and outside the Valley.
