Search operations continued in Kathua two days after a gunfight broke out between terrorists and Army in a forest area. The gunfight started in the wee hours on Saturday after which the terrorists escaped from the spot and a massive search operation was started.

Soon after a sentry at a temporary Army camp in Batod panchayat of the district spotted suspicious movement at around 1.20 am, he opened fire.

The terrorists fired back and intermittent exchange of fire continued between the two sides for nearly half an hour.

However, there was no casualty on either side. The ultras, believed to be three in number, escaped in the dense forest area.

Even on Monday, security forces continued search operation in forest areas to eliminate the ultras.

Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, along with senior police officials, had recently visited border areas of Samba and Kathua.

During the visit, critical areas of concern, including border fencing, patrolling mechanisms, surveillance equipment and coordination between multiple security agencies, were examined. The DGP emphasised the importance of synergy and swift communication among all stakeholders to maintain a fool-proof security apparatus.
