A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was injured after Pakistani troops opened fire in a ceasefire violation on Wednesday in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district, where the BSF guards the International Border (IB) with Pakistan.
“On September 11 around 2:35 am, the Akhnoor area witnessed unprovoked firing from across the border and it was befittingly responded by the BSF,” a statement issued by the BSF read. It further read that one of the BSF personnel sustained injuries in the firing, following which the troops had been put on high alert.
It is believed that a long-range sniper rifle might have been used in the firing, the purpose of which is yet to be ascertained by the officials. However, it seems that it was help infiltrators to cross the border.
India and Pakistan had signed a ceasefire agreement in 2003, but there were many incidents of unprovoked firing from the side of Pakistan. However, in 2021, the ceasefire agreement was reinforced, after which the incidents have drastically decreased.
