Date:- 23 Aug 2024

In view of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, officials from the police and district administration inspected border areas in Kathua and Samba district.

Kathua Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepika, along with other police officials, visited the border subdivision area.

The SSP reviewed the security arrangements for the Assembly elections, including the deployment of additional forces, surveillance systems and quick response teams.

She directed the officials concerned to ensure the highest level of vigilance and preparedness to address any potential security threats and maintain a secure environment, particularly in light of the recent challenges.

“Special emphasis was laid on putting up joint nakas and checking vehicles originating from the border or coming from the national highway to foil the nefarious designs of anti-national elements,” said an official.

The SSP also took stock of requirements to upgrade security and strengthen border police posts (BPP). However, certain areas were identified for enhancement and necessary instructions were issued on the spot to the officials concerned.

Meanwhile, Samba District Election Officer Rajesh Sharma conducted a comprehensive inspection of polling stations in the border areas of the Ramgarh constituency.

“The inspection aimed to assess the readiness of polling stations and ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place to facilitate a smooth and secure voting process. During his visit, the Samba DEO reviewed the logistical arrangements, security measures and accessibility of the polling stations,” an official stated.

The DEO emphasised the importance of ensuring that every eligible voter can exercise their right to vote in a free and fair environment.

Rajesh Sharma also held discussions with local election officials and security personnel to address concerns and make necessary improvements.
