The Army on Thursday said it foiled an infiltration bid at the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district and killed two militants. This is the second infiltration attempt made in the Kupwara sector in less than a week.
Srinagar-based 15 Corps, which looks after anti-terrorism operations in Kashmir and also the Line of Control, said an infiltration attempt was “successfully prevented” and two militants were eliminated. “Anti-infiltration operations are continuing,” it wrote on X.
There was no official word from the Army or police if the bodies of the ultras have been recovered by the Army.
According to the officials, the fresh infiltration attempt was made in Keran sector and the operation was underway till late Thursday evening.
Today’s operation in the second such operation in the same sectors in less than a week. On Sunday, three militants were killed after an infiltration bid was foiled at the Line of Control in Keran.
In June and April, infiltration bids were foiled in Uri sector in border district Baramulla. Security officials say as the melting of snow in the mountains begins, there are high chances of infiltration attempts from across the LoC witnessing an increase.
