Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that after the abrogation of Article 370, there has been 70 per cent decline in terrorism-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir and an 81 per cent reduction in civilian deaths.
In addition to this, there has been 48 per cent decline in the deaths of security personnel, Shah noted, adding that this shows that a new era of happiness and peace has begun in the Union Territory.
Shah made these observations while virtually launching e-bus service for Jammu Smart City. He also distributed more than 1,000 appointment letters for Jammu and Kashmir Combined Examination-2024 and compassionate appointments.
The Home Minister said that there were 2,654 incidents of organised stone pelting in 2010, which were reduced to zero in 2023. He added that while there were 132 incidents of organised strikes in 2010, not a single incident took place in 2023.
Similarly in 2010, 112 civilians died in stone pelting. In 2023, not a single civilian died in stone pelting, Shah asserted. He added that in 2010, the number of civilians injured in stone pelting was 6,235, which is zero today.
The Home Minister added that the central government is strictly cracking down on terror financing, sealing and freezing assets of terrorists and has also outlawed several terrorist organisations.
Shah said on the occasion that today, 209 successful candidates of Jammu and Kashmir Combined Examination-2024 batch have also received their appointment letters. These include 96 officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service, 63 officers of Account Gazette Service and 50 officers of Police Service.
The minister noted that due to the transparent system under the NDA regime, these officers have got these jobs on the basis of merit, adding that during Modi’s tenure, jobs are provided not on the basis of recommendation slips but on the basis of examinations. Earlier, he said, it was impossible to get a job without political recommendation or corruption, adding that now Jammu and Kashmir is going through a phase of change.
