Date:- 04 Aug 2022

With intelligence agencies receiving inputs that Pakistan-backed terrorists might try to disturb peace in the Jammu division, especially in Rajouri and Kishtwar, ahead of the Independence Day, the security forces are all set to launch operations to trace and neutralise terrorists in the two districts.

There are credible inputs about presence of armed ultras in both the districts. The recent arrest of Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist Talib Hussain, who belonged to Rajouri and was involved in many terror incidents in the region, had set the alarm bells ringing among the security apparatus. The police also have inputs that Pakistan’s ISI has been trying to recruit local youths in Kishtwar.

At a high-level meeting recently in which senior officials from different security and intelligence agencies took part, it was decided that operations would be launched in Rajouri and Kishtwar. The meeting was chaired by Jammu ADGP Mukesh Singh. According to the police, Singh highlighted the latest trends in terror activities and urged the security agencies to work towards mitigating the threat. He stressed on anti-drone measures, border deployment grid and focusing on operations in Rajouri and Kishtwar, besides preventive measures in other districts.

Meanwhile, the meeting that was called for preparations ahead of Independence Day also discussed security measures to be put in place across the region.
