Date:- 16 Jul 2022

Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of former CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, on Friday appeared before a special TADA court in Jammu in connection with her abduction case and identified J&K Liberation Front chief Yasin Malik, said to be the key accused, along with three others. Advocate Monika Kohli, public prosecutor, said, “Rubaiya was summoned by the court earlier (May 27 this year) and she recorded her statement today. She identified Yasin Malik along with three others. The process continued till evening.”

Rubaiya was shown photographs of the accused through which she identified them. The next hearing is on August 23 when cross-examination will be conducted.

Yasin Malik had recently sought his physical presence in the court as he wanted to cross-examine the witnesses himself in connection with Rubaiya case as well as that of killing of four IAF officers.

“The court has issued a production warrant in both the cases,” Kohli informed. Both the cases were being heard continuously for the past four days.

Rubaiya stays in Tamil Nadu and is listed as a prosecution witness. She will visit the court on August 23 for her cross-examination.

She was kidnapped by members of the JKLF from Srinagar in 1989 as the militants wanted to ensure release of their jailed associates. She was freed from captivity five days later on December 13 that year after the then VP Singh government released five terrorists to secure her release.

In January last year, the court had framed charges against 10 people, including Yasin Malik, in Rubaiya case.
