Date:- 28 Jun 2022

Security forces killed two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants in a gunfight in Trubji area of Kulgam district on Monday. Acting on a piece of information about the presence of militants in Trubji area of south Kashmir, a joint team of the police, the Army and the CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation, a police spokesperson said.

As the security forces approached the suspected spot, the militants fired at them, triggering a gunfight. The slain militants have been identified as Zubair Ahmad Mir and Idrees Ahmad Dar of Kulgam. The police said they had been involved in several attacks on security forces and civilians.

Mir had been active since August last year. He was trying to revive militancy by motivating local youth, including Dar, to join the militant group. Kashmir IGP Vijay Kumar termed the operation important as the encounter site was very close to the highway (Yatra route) and the LeT (TRF) had been issuing threats to Yatra.
