Jammu and Kashmir administration has sealed five residential houses in Srinagar for allegedly providing shelter to the militants.

“Five residential houses of willful harborers of militants have been attached today in Srinagar for being used for the purpose of terrorism,” a senior official told The Tribune.

These houses have been sealed under Section 2(g) and Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities Prevent Act, pertaining to curbing militant activities in the country.

“These are the houses where it has been proved beyond doubt that they were used for militancy and the shelter or harbour was voluntarily or knowingly given by the house members,” a police spokesperson said.

Many attacks on civilians and security forces were conspired and planned by militants while using these houses as hideouts, police said.

Two of these houses are located in the Parimpora locality while one each in the Panthachowk, Nowhatta, and Zakoora localities of Srinagar.

“Some more such houses have been identified and any wilful harbouring will be dealt with the full force of law,” police said.

Police have asked the public not to harbour or give shelter to militants, failing which they will be “forced to take resort to attachment proceedings”.

In case of any forced or coercive entry by militants into any house, police said the matter should be brought to the notice of police immediately.
