The J&K police today said they had neutralised a top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander and his Pakistani accomplice in two separate encounters on the outskirts of Srinagar. The LeT commander, Saleem Parray, a resident of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, was killed in a brief gunfight in Shalimar area, while his accomplice Hafiz, alias Hamza, of Pakistan fled. The accomplice was later gunned down in a separate encounter in a nearby area at Harwan an hour later, the police said.
Kashmir IG Vijay Kumar tweeted that Parray was among the most wanted militants and he had been involved in civilian killings. “In 2016, Saleem Parray had killed 12 civilians by slitting their throats. His killing is a big success for the police.”
The other militant, Hafiz, the police said, was behind the recent killing of two policemen in Bandipora district on December 10.
