4 Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists killed in encounter in Jammus Nagrota

Date:- 19 Nov 2020

Had infiltrated into India through the International Border in Samba on Wednesday night

Four terrorists travelling in a truck were killed on Thursday morning during an ongoing encounter near Nagrota in J&K’s Jammu district, top police officials said.

"Four terrorists have been neutralised and a police constable is injured in an encounter at Ban Toll Plaza Jammu with Police, CRPF and Army. Area is being sanitised," police said.

Speaking to IANS, Director General of Police Dilbag Singh said a group of four JeM terrorists had infiltrated into India through the International Border in Samba on Wednesday night.

They were travelling in a truck on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which was intercepted by the police at a toll plaza near Nagrota.

After they were intercepted the heavily armed terrorists threw grenades at the police party. During the gun battle the truck caught fire.

The area was cordoned off and additional forces were rushed to the spot.

This is the second such encounter on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway this year.

According to the police, the terrorists belong to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group.

In January, three terrorists were gunned down by the security forces. They had adopted a similar modus operandi by hiding inside a truck.

The Jaish terrorists were carrying huge quantity of arms and ammunition, including 11 AK-47 rifles and pistols and in all probability were planning something big, perhaps "disruption of district-level elections", a top police officer said.

Speaking to IANS, DGP Dilbag Singh said: "The group of four JeM terrorists had infiltrated into India through the international border in Samba on Wednesday night." The four were travelling in a Kashmir-bound truck and were killed during the encounter when their truck was intercepted by police at a toll plaza.

Inspector General Jammu, Mukesh Kumar, said there were specific inputs about the terrorists' movement.

"There were inputs that the terrorists were planning to disrupt the upcoming District Development Council (DDC) elections," he said. He said the security was tight and the vehicles were being thoroughly checked on the highway.

Around 5 am, the truck carrying the militants was stopped. On questioning, the driver got hesitant and leaped out and started running away.

The IG said that the police team was fired upon from inside the truck and in retaliation the four JeM terrorists were killed.

A large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from them, including 11 AK rifles and three pistols.

"They were planning something big," Kumar said. "Each terrorist was carrying at least three AK rifles." IANS
