- Better late than never...

R K Mattoo

All India Kashmiri Samaj's (AIKS) latest stand on the Jammu & Kashmir National Democratic Front (JKNDF) by accepting its existence only exposes the confused mind of the former which is considered to be the apex body of Kashmiri Pandits as it claims to have over 70 KP organizations as its affiliates all over the globe. Yes...No...Yes...Wait and Watch...Let us See...bla...bla...bla does not befit an organization of the stature of AIKS which has seen many community stalwarts as its members or heading it. The present top leadership has no parallel. Then why there is indecisiveness and inconsistency in its stand on various issues.

In its latest edition of Naad, the official organ of AIKS, the president claims that AIKS is not averse to JKNDF, a new born baby of KPs. The president also explains how the community can gain by participating in the political process of the state and the country. It will not be out of place to mention that JKNDF was the seed of AIKS young turks supported by AIKS president which sprouted during the AIKS AGM held in December 2006 at Kolkata. Soon after the conference, the AIKS distanced itself and finally disowned the baby in August 2007 at its AGM at Jammu without any rhyme or reason.

And now at its AGM at Jammu in January, the AIKS has realized that JKNDF is not parallel organization to any existing KP organizations and there was no harm in giving it a try.

Though AlKS's stiff resistance to the JKNDF in the past has not come in the way of its plans, it has definitely created confusion in the minds of people. May be the growth of JKNDF would have been slightly faster had the AIKS behaved as an umbrella organization.

Better late than never. Gradual change of heart towards JKNDF should be taken in a very positive sense as the new political party needs the support of AIKS and all its affiliates and other like minded organizations and individuals to grow and achieve the community goal. Kudos to AIKS for supporting the cause.

In the interest of the community, the AIKS should act as an umbrella organisation in uniting the KP organizations and propagate the advantages of a KP political party to empower a common KP. The JKNDF leadership should accept each and ever organization and individual who volunteers to work for the party. The JKNDF should keep its membership open unconditionally in tune with its constitution and welcome ever individual in its fold to work for a common political goal. After all the problems of dignity, unemployment, identity and return to our motherland are common.

Let us strengthen the hands of JKNDF, the maiden political initiative of the community, elect our own leader and reach to the decision making bodies of the country to decide our own fate.
