Last evening, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti took no time in taking to her twitter handle and expressing pain over killing of top category terrorist Manaan Wani in north Kashmir.
Today, however, she preferred silence over the sleazy video, involving Qazi Yasir, the Mirwaiz (head preacher) of south Kashmir, who has been caught masturbating on camera while talking to 20 years old girl.
Both terrorist, Manaan Wani and Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir are alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University. Both are scholars. Both espoused the so-called cause of Kashmir. Both have been working towards secession of Kashmir from India.
Why double standards?
Why didn’t Mehbooba Mufti, or for that matter her colleagues in the Kashmir mainstream as also separatists, reacted to the sleazy video. Isn’t the girl in twenties a Dukhtar of Kashmir, who had been subjected to vulgarity by a religious preacher, who is supposed to be conscious keeper of the society?
The Kashmir hypocrisy is not surprising. The Valley leadership remained largely muted to the gang rape and brutal murder of a nine years old girl child, even as the same lot made Rassana Kathua case international, dubbing the entire Dogra community of Jammu as rapists. After being shown the door, in the wake of break in the PDP-BJP alliance, Mehbooba Mufti took lot of pains in meeting in her capacity as former Chief Minister to Governor Narinder Nath Vohra, only to impress upon him to do justice with the Rassana Gujjar girl-child. She didn’t do so in the case of Boniyar girl except her cosmetic visit to the family. She did not show the Rassana girl like sympathy with a seven-year old girl allegedly raped by a Maulvi at a madrasa in the Katal Battal area of Nagrota in the Jammu periphery on 14 March 2018, weeks after the unfortunate Kathua case. The former Chief Minister is also preferring silence over the plight of the south Kashmir girl, who has unfortunately become subject of controversy in the Mirwaiz Masturbating Video, viral across the State, and even the country.
The video is yet another shocker from the Valley after the ugly trail of Kashmir’s self-styled godman, Gulzar Peer, who got off the hook for sexually abusing several young girls, including minors, at his religious centre, Khansahib in Budgam district. The Mehbooba led government didn’t found it prudent to probe into weak prosecution leading to his freedom. But, in the case of Rassana, her government ensured fast tracking of the case, and rightly so.
Who do the Kashmir leadership shield and support? A terrorist, who masterminds attacks on security forces and those not endorsing his Jihadi agenda; a rapist who subjects disciplines to use and abuse; a Mirwaiz who masturbates while talking to girls!
Another mainstream political party of the Valley found time to see the Governor this afternoon and seek his indulgence in stopping ‘unbridled human rights violations and mounting anger among youth’ but thought it lesser important to seek action against the masturbating Mirwaiz. They forgot that women too have human rights in Kashmir.
One can understand the anguish of Mehbooba Mufti over the killing of Manaan Wani, which reflected in what she tweeted, “Today a PhD scholar chose death over life & was killed in an encounter. His death is entirely our loss as we are losing young educated boys everyday” but why no anger over the top Islamic cleric, who headed the Islamic Research Institute (IRI).
Yasir, known for his proximity to a north Kashmir-based politician who was a minister in the PDP-BJP coalition government, however, continues to head Ummat-e-Islami, a socio-religious organisation based in south Kashmir that has been demanding “right to self determination” for people of Jammu and Kashmir, according to reports.
The report quoting sources said Idaar-e-Tehqeeqat, or the Islamic Research Institute (IRI), a seminary founded by Yasir’s father, Qazi Nisar, a popular leader of the erstwhile Muslim United Front who contested elections before insurgency erupted in Kashmir during early nineties, will continue to run the affairs of Jamia Masjid Anantnag.
The undated video of Yasir, a graduate from Aligarh Muslim University, showed him in a sleazy video conversation and masturbating with a girl in mid twenties who is reported to be a resident of south Kashmir, prompting uproar across the Valley. Qazi Yasir is married and has two kids.
Reacting to the calls for stepping down from the affairs of IRI, the maternal grandfather of Qazi Yasir, Mohammad Abdullah Shah, posted a video on Kashmiriyat, a web-portal run by Yasir’s brother, announcing that he (Yasir) will no longer be Mirwaiz South Kashmir.
“We are taking away the post of Mirwaiz South Kashmir from Qazi Yasir and he will also step down as president of IRI keeping in view the aspirations of people,” Abdullah, who, in a mysterious turn of events, has been identified as the patron of the IRI.
Yasir’s father, Qazi Nisar, returned from Aligarh Muslim University after completing his PhD in Arabic and took over from his father, Qazi Ahmadullah, as Mirwaiz South Kashmir. He was assassinated by unknown gunmen on June 19, 1994 in Dialgam of south Kashmir.
Qazi Yasir graduated from the same university in 2004 and took over the reins of the IRI in 2012. He had earlier joined hands with the north Kashmir based politician’s political party and has also participated in roundtable conference on Kashmir during UPA-I tenure when Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister, as per the report.
It is for policy planners in New Delhi also to verify the credentials of all those who they engage in back channel talks for buying peace in Kashmir. Most of them hide ugly faces behind scholarly and religious facades.
