Stop Chasing, Start Livin Are You Ready
On New Year's Day 2025, like most people. I was checking messages on my phone while enjoying a quiet morning. It was all cheerful greetings until one message from my maternal WhatsApp group caught my eye. It had a video attached with the text. "Too good to watch, the real thing happening in today's life." Curious, I clicked on it. The video was only 81 seconds long, but it packed a punch. It showed 12 thought-provoking slides, each with a brief line and an emotional image on back of the lines, set to Heartfelt background music. Here's what each slide said: 1. Big house, small family 2. More degrees, less common sense 3. Advanced medicine, poor health 4. Touched the moon, neighbour’s unknown 5. High income, less peace of mind 6. High IQ, fewer emotions 7. More knowledge, less wisdom 8. Multiple affairs, no true love 9. Lots of virtual friends, no real ones 10. More alcohol, less water 11. Lots of humans, less humanity 12. Costly watches, no time The video ended with, "Share if you agree." At first, I didn't fully agree, but it made me pause and think, why do these lines seem so accurate today? and then I realized, it's not just society; we are all part of it as we've created this world. Take Big house, small family. We were taught bigger is better, big houses, cars, jobs. But now many of us live in big homes, yet rarely spend time with our loved ones. We're busy chasing success, but we miss out on what truly matters. Or High income, less peace of mind. From a young age, we're told that money is the key to happiness. But chasing high income often means stress, poor health, and neglecting the things that really bring peace. We justify it, saying, "It's worth it," but is it? Social media plays a big role in this. We're pressured to stay online, posting and checking in, but it offen makes us feel disconnected from real-life connections. We say we have no time, yet we can find hours to binge-watch shows or scroll through social media. We make excuses, but the truth is, we've made time for distractions. These lines aren't just some facts but they're excuses we use to explain our busy lives. We don't act because it's easier to stay in the same routine. But we don't have to keep making excuses. It's time to reset and focus on what really matters peace of mind, real relationships, and true happiness. Here's why these lines are just excuses: Big house, small family We buy big houses but don't spend time together. We tell ourselves we're too busy, but we're not making time for what matters. We make excuses, but no one's stopping us from choosing time over space More degrees, less common sense - We chase degrees but forget about real-life wisdom. It's easier to stick to what we know, instead of applying common sense. We say it's all about education, but no one's stopping us from balancing both. Advanced medicine, poor health-We rely on medicine but keep bad habits. It's easier to take a pill than change our lifestyle. We make excuses, but no one's stopping us from taking care of ourselves. Touched the moon, neighbor's unknown- We've done amazing things, but we don't know our neighbors. It's easier to stay detached, but we lose real connections. We're too busy, but no one's stopping us from connecting with others. High income, less peace of mind-We work hard for money, money and more money but lose our peace. We justify stress, but it's time to stop and ask: is it really worth it? We think it's worth it, but no one's stopping us from choosing peace, not a lot of money High IQ, fewer emotions We care more about being smart than in tune with our feelings It's easier to stay logical, but it disconnects us from what really matters. We focus on brains, but no one's stopping us from nurturing both mind and heart More knowledge, less wisdom-We collect facts, forward lot of messages on Whatsapp or on any social media but forget to reflect. It's easier to keep learning than to pause and ask: "What does it all mean?" We make excuses, but no one's stopping us from using what we know wisely. Multiple affairs, no true love-We avoid real love, jumping from one short affair to the next. It's easier to keep things casual, but we miss deep connections. We think it's fun, but no one's stopping us from seeking real connections. Lots of virtual friends, no real ones - We have hundreds of online friends, but feel lonely. It's easier to stay online, but real friendships require effort. We make excuses, but no one's stopping us from building real friendships. More alcohol, less water-We drink more alcohol even sometimes with our father and forget to stay hydrated. We call ourselves modern families, but excuses are taking a toll on our health. No one's stopping us from choosing healthier habits. Lots of humans, less humanity - We're around people all the time, but don't connect deeply, It's easier to stay busy, but we lose the chance to show kindness. We get busy, but no one's stopping us from showing kindness Costly watches, no time-We buy expensive watches but never have time. We blame time, but we're not prioritizing what matters. We blame time, but no one's stopping us from prioritizing what's important. These are the excuses we've made, but it doesn't have to be this way. It's time for a change We can shift our focus back to the things that really matter-peace of mind, real relationships, and true happiness. The choice is ours to make. There are those who recognize the need for change and take action, while others remain stuck in their comfort zones, refusing to evolve The power to change your life is in your hands, make the choice that your future self will thank you for.
