


KASHMIR BHAWAN CALLING
Kashmiri Samiti Delhi, stands out as the tallest organisation of Kashmiri Pandits because of its image which it has built through the past 50 years It has especially played a significant role in the post exodus phase of the community, when it was faced with a situation where it had to argue the community cause before the powers that be and that needed a fair amount of understanding of the issues. During all these years, the Samiti had to perform cautiously to prevent this structure from erosion. Therefore, its sustenance became all the more important which is an achievement by itself.
1. Meeting with Director K-II Ministry of Home Affairs (J&K Affairs)
A delegation led by KSD President Dr L N Dhar held a meeting on 13th February 2008 regarding the problems faced by the displaced Kashmiri migrants in getting their relief and other related issues. The other members of delegation were S/ Shri Nanajee Raina and Avinash Tickoo (Vice- Presidents) and undersigned. The delegation apprised the authorities about the problems being faced by the Kashmiri migrant families regarding submission of the affidavit by relief takers The delegation requested the authorities to revoke this order as it does not have any substance, viz giving of details of property, income tax returns and pan numbers. The delegation demanded for immediate release of the payments to those relief takers whose payment has been stopped on one pretext or the other. The delegation also demanded for centralised payment system from one counter Le Jam Nagar, New Delhi.
2) Meeting with the Divisional Commissioner. NCT Delhi.
A delegation led by the President held a meeting with Divisional Commissioner Delhi in his office chamber on Feb. 2008 The members of delegation were S/Shri Nanajee Raina and Avinash Tickoo (Vice Presidents), Bushan Lal Bhat and Ashok Handoo. The meeting was also attended by Director K-II (J&K Affairs). The delegation apprised the authorities about the problems being faced by the Kashmiri migrants for their relief disbursement, affidavits and other things. The meeting was also attended by all the District Commissioners of Delhi. Divisional Commissioner instructed the authorities not to press Kashmiri migrants for submission of affidavits. It was also decided that no verification will be done by the authorities in future for those who are drawing their sustenance allowance. It was also instructed by Divisional Commissioner to all DC's to have an affidavit from the relief takers once in a year in support of their stay in Delhi. The authorities were also directed to release the payment of every Kashmiri migrant in the first week of the month.
3. Educational Assistance Programme
As the admission process for Kashmiri migrant wards have set in, the Kashmiri Samiti Delhi is on its toes moving from one office to other for issuance of the HRD Ministry orders for reservations. However, the list of websites of different universities is being published in this issue also. Wards of Kashmiri migrants are requested to access these websites regularly. 4. Annual Mahayagnia at Kashmir Bhawan
The Annual Mahayagnia was performed by Kashmiri Samiti Delhi on March 1st and 2nd 2008 at Kashmir Bhawan, which was decorated for this sacred event. The Hawan commenced on the evening of March 1" 2008 with S/Shri Nanajee Raina, Avinash Tickoo and Bhushan Lal Bhat as Yajmaans. The Bhawan reverberated whole night with chanting of Vedic hymns and other Mantras leading the surroundings to an aura of solemnity and serenity. The vedic mantras were chanted by revered Pt Prithvi Nath Jee in his melodious tone. The function of March 2nd saw the grand convergence of the devotees from different parts of the Capital and other adjoining areas for participation in the Mahayagnia.
The Hawan Mandap was full of men, women and children in their colourful dresses who had come from far and near participated in the Samoohik Aarti and other rituals. The Purna Ahooti was offered at 1.30 p.m with vedic mantras.
The Executive members and other office- bearers of Kashmiri Samiti Delhi manned the different posts of duty in an efficient manner. The overall command was under the supervision of S/Shri Dr L N Dhar (President), NN Zijoo-Printer & Publisher, Romesh Motta, M K Kak, Ashok Handoo, Ashok Trisal, Kuldeep Qanoogo, Bal Krishen Langoo, Dr CL Tickoo, Arun Shalia, B N Wanchoo, K L Bhan, Surinder Kher, Rattan Lal Kaul, Pamposh Raina and Sanjay Koul.
My sincere thanks to Shri Moti Lal Bamzai (Ex- Executive member) who had come all the way from Mumbai to attend this function. Shri Bamzai took over all control of Naveed Vitran.
My sincere thanks to S/Shri M L Wangnoo, CL Raina, Prof CL Koul, T. N. Wanchoo and Mr Yachoo who joined the chanting of vedic mantaras up to conclusion of Hawan.
