Kashmiri Samiti Delhi organised a sober, Martyrs Day observance at Martyr B.K. Ganju Park, in New Delhi, on September 14 last.

The venue of the observance was full to capacity Many participants had to remain standing behind the chairs. The day was a hot one. Still, many participants had come from far-off places to reach the venue. The gathering comprised persons from Delhi, the National Capital region and places far away, including Jammu.

Leaders of various Kashmiri Pandit organisations came to offer floral tributes to the departed souls. They bowed in front of a huge sign board displaying photos of martyrs of the Kashmiri Pandit community who sacrificed their lives so that we, the survivors, should continue to live and the secular character of India continues to thrive.

The speakers' lectures were deep and penetrating. These were listened to in rapt attention. In some instances, in which the gruesome scenes of the murder of the KP members were described, brought tears in the eyes of the listeners. One such instance was of a K. P. lady who was cut to pieces in a bandsaw mill that had been set up to cut timber for house-building.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Shri Manoj Sinha, Union Minister of State for Communication and Railways, paid tribute to the brave soldiers and individuals who chose martyrdom for the unity and integrity of the country.

Shri Sinha added that the demands of the Samiti are genuine and the Government will consider these seriously. He assured the audience that he will keep the doors of his office open for them to come and convey their points of view.

Presiding over the observance of balidan divas, KSD President Vijay Raina said that the Samiti has been observing the day for the last 28 years. The Samiti activists have come to the conclusion that neither the State, nor the Central Government are serious about solving Kashmiri Pandits' problems. As a result, the community will have to depend upon its own efforts.

He was feeling pain to state that no militant, who murdered KPS, has been punished so far. He was thankful to Shri Sinha, who despite his urgent tasks and in the midst of a hot day, came to the venue.

The gathering was, also, addressed by Shri T.N. Razdan, Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch, Convener, Panun Kashmir, Dr. Agnishekhar, who had come from Jammu, Shri Sushil Pandit, founder, Roots of Kashmir, Dr. S. K. Han Joo, KSS, Faridabad, and Shri Rawat, President, V NL Colony Residents We are Association.

They said that Kashmiri Pandits will not hesitate to offer their lives, in future also, to protect the unity and sovereignty of the nation..

They added that the return of Kashmiri Pandits, along with people, having faith in the Indian Constitution, in a separate homeland, is the only solution to the Kashmir problem and a true tribute to the martyrs.

They demanded speedy justice to be provided to the victims of terrorism and energise the fight against terrorism.

Touching patriotic and devotional songs were sung by a team of young K.P. boys and girls.
