Some Young Politicians In Kerala Have a Short Sex Fuse
Sex’ bombs often explode on the political turf in Kerala. The latest is that regarding the controversy surrounding Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil who was caught with a series of online messages and threats that ran like a laundry list of a drooling sex movie script. With the ruling party – the CPM – and the BJP eagerly keen on pinning the Congress down on the sex mat, the Grand Old Party has threatened the CPM and the BJP with a series of sex bombs that would shock Kerala. The sex escapades have also dragged animals into the scene. The BJP, keen on fighting a bypoll in their A Pluss Assembly of Palakkad should Rahul resign MLA post, took out an ox procession to depict how some Congressmen have a raging sexual gene tied to their political ‘pole’. The Opposition leader VD Satheesan hit back saying that the ox can be tied in the BJP’s backyard as he would soon come out with stories of some of the saffron party’s that would put the ox to shame. Congress suspends Kerala MLA Rahul Mamkootathil from primary membership amid misconduct charges - The Hindu The Congress also took out a rooster procession to the CPM offices – a take on some Left leaders who were literally caught with their pants down – a reference to a senior CPM leader’s son who was involved in a steamy illegal marriage. And there is, of course, Mukesh – a senior actor, film producer and currently a CPM lawmaker. After the publication of the Hema Committee report in 2024, an actress alleged that Mukesh had sexually harassed her. On 24 September 2024, Mukesh was arrested by a Special Investigation Team in connection with a rape case. Following his arrest, Mukesh underwent a medical examination and potency test. Coming to the present sex crisis involving Rahul, a fresh audio clip recently surfaced, allegedly featuring a conversation between him and a woman who has accused him of sexual misconduct. In the phone conversation, which has been circulating on social media, the woman is heard resisting the MLA’s alleged demand. When she raises concerns about her safety, a male voice, claimed to be Rahul’s, responds: “If I wanted to kill you, how much time do you think I will need?” The woman, refusing to yield, questions his morality, saying he is thinking only about himself. The man purportedly replies that if she keeps the child, his “life will be destroyed.” At one point, he insists on meeting her, to which the woman retorts, asking if it is “to kill her.” The emergence of the clip comes days after Rahul stepped down as state president of the Youth Congress amid the escalating scandal. The MLA, however, has not yet resigned from the Assembly, even as pressure mounts on him from within and outside the party. The AICC has asked Rahul to come clean and rejected his weak explanations of a plot to end his political career. The Congress chucked him out of the primary party membership and stripped him of all the posts. He is now a political pariah and has been told to sit separately in the Assembly. The Congress leader is currently hiding from public glare andcancelled the promised press conferences to explain his stand. The row began when actress Rini Ann George alleged that a “young leader” of a prominent political party had misbehaved with her. While she did not initially name anyone, protests by the BJP and the CPI(M)’s youth wing quickly pointed fingers at Rahul Mamkootathil. The controversy deepened when writer Honey Bhaskaran accused him of inappropriate Instagram exchanges and derogatory remarks. Both women later clarified that they had not filed formal complaints, but the allegations triggered a political storm. Mounting street protests and demands for his resignation placed Mamkootathil under pressure, leading to his decision to step down as Youth Congress president, though he insists he has committed no illegality. Even as the Congress decision to suspend him from the party’s primary membership has come as a setback for Rahul, at the end of the day it was the majority opinion in the party that he should not be subjected to extreme disciplinary action that helped in saving his MLA post. The KPCC arrived at this decision after a marathon discussion that Sunny Joseph had with a slew of leaders including Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan, KPCC working presidents A P Anil Kumar, P C Vishnunath, and Shafi Parambil. Sunny also held discussions with 20 senior leaders including three women leaders, working committee members from the state except A K Antony and Shashi Tharoor, and UDF convenor Adoor Prakash. Incidentally, Tharoor has been silent on the issue. “We admit that Rahul’s resignation as Youth Congress president was a moral step. However, even after days of waiting not a single written complaint reached KPCC. And no single police complaint was registered against him. Rahul also alleged conspiracy behind it by producing an audio clip. Hence, we reached the conclusion that asking him to resign the MLA post is politically not right at this moment. If allegations are proven wrong later it could not be corrected,” a senior leader said. Meanwhile, there was severe criticism against Satheesan within the party for pushing the party into a difficult position and calling the shot unilaterally. “He tried to take credit for the situation by giving hints to the media that tough action will be taken. Leaders within his close circle also demanded resignation in news channels. Everyone knew Satheesan’s close relations with Rahul and how he supported the latter. Satheesan tried to play the role of a saint and it failed miserably,” a political affairs committee member said. The KPCC leadership was not happy with the way news about their decision reached the news channels within hours. Meanwhile, allegations against Mamkootathil have triggered a political storm in Palakkad, leaving the Congress leadership struggling to defend its turf while the BJP sees an opportunity to strengthen its already growing presence in the district. Rahul had secured 58,389 votes in the by-election. The BJP’s optimism is backed by numbers. The party has been on a steady growth trajectory in Palakkad since 2015, when it won 24 out of 54 seats in the municipality. BJP candidate C Krishna Kumar, riding on the party’s steady rise in the region, finished second with 39,549 votes. With the fresh controversy casting a shadow over Rahul, BJP leaders believe the tide is turning further in their favour ahead of both local body and Assembly elections. Ground-level BJP workers openly admit that the crisis has given them a ready-made opportunity. One local cadre said, “The MLA cannot even attend small functions in his constituency now. If Congress keeps defending him, it benefits us. If they force him to resign and a by-election is called, it will be a cakewalk for BJP.” While some leaders caution against reducing the matter to electoral arithmetic, they acknowledge the Rahul factor is now firmly at play. “This issue will have a huge impact in Palakkad. But we also work hard to ensure the BJP’s victory across Kerala. Both the Congress and the Left have skeletons in their cupboards. If those start tumbling out, it will only help us. But our message is clear-the BJP is the only party that can guarantee real development in Kerala,” said another senior leader. BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has launched a broadside against Mamkootathil, saying the party always protected the corrupt and those who abused women. “The leadership’s decision to let Rahul continue as MLA despite expelling him from the party’s primary membership reflects its rotten political culture,” Rajeev said. “Is the Congress leadership asking the people of Palakkad to bear with a person who is not even eligible for the party’s primary membership?” he asked, while asserting that the BJP will continue its strong street protests until Rahul resigns as MLA. “All proud Congress workers are welcome to join the BJP’s development politics,” he said. More sex bombs are likely to explode after Onam, the festival season where people focus more on feasts and celebrations. After Onam, the state is bound to see some stinking stories on their political plates
