Raithan temple of Bagdam

Raithan, originally known as Ragyna Rsthaan, is a famous temple in the Budgam area of Kashmir. Around 30 Kms from Srinagar, the asthapan is located in the village of the same name.

One of the spots chosen by Rajnya Bhagwati, before she finally chose the Tuimula as her abode, the temple is the Ksheer Bhawani of the Budgam district.

The Goddess manifests herself in the form of Shila (Rock/Boulder) The belief is that the Shila is also the door to heaven There is also a spring next to the Shila, which was discovered around 30 years back (before exodus) During the cleaning of the spring a large number of ancient idols were found and were handed over to ASI.

While the current temple is 200 years old, it is believed that there is used to be a grand temple a few centuries ago (probably before Islam came to Kashmir) Huge decorated devri stones can be found within the temple premises.

At the asthappan of Rajyna Mata, a havan is performed on the occasion of Zetha Aetham (Zestha Ashtami). coinciding with the famous Meia Ksheer Bahwani of Tulumla.

Temple has been in bad shape for many years now, although there has been an effort by some Kashmir Pandits to repair and renovate it.
