The paradise we lost
WE lost our land of birth, our roots and our nest,
We lost everything dear to us, valuable & the best.
We lost the blissful mornings of that divine vale,
that greeted with the melodious tones of the
oriel, the cuckoo and the nightingale.
The gushing rivulets singing to the tone of
fairies' anklets,
the morning-blooming lotuses bloom now
only in the lake of mindsets.
Those majestic chinars, kile and pine forests,
that lulled to sleep the weary bands of relaxing
Guests.
The high-rise domes of the temples & the
Minarets,
engrained in memory are still adorning my
thoughts.
We lost our friends and lost our foes,
N'one around to share our joys and woes.
Estranged in our own land,
had never seen before so scorching sun and
sand.
The deities of our temples are looking to our
lost ways,
Waiting to hear again chanting of mantras
and prayers.
Lighting of thousands of earthen lamps and
waving them
Together in the evening prayers,
Is but a lost dream of lacs of modest believers.
Taking over in the name and upkeep &
management of our sacred places is still
more a cruel joke.
Where vermilions are planted on the visitors'
foreheads by beefeaters with an
insulting stroke.
The Vitasta is crying for thousands of its sons,
who in the morning adored its banks, offering
water to their departed ones.
The sacred springs once devoutly worshipped,
Ask in dismay, "Is the race of KPS
completely extinguished,
Is their story only of a lost civilization,
who were once the soul & spirit of this nation."
