Asian giants

   

 It is quite satisfying that two Asian giants are realising the necessity and importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity on the 4000 kilometres long common border. Unfortunately misunderstandings and misconceptions have bedevilled relations between India and China and the Indian goodwill has had little impact on Chinese rulers in the past. The recent meeting of the Defence high ups has covered a wide range of aspects of common defence and security themes. The joint military exercise conducted during 2013 has been encouraging and it has prompted the sides to conduct more updated exercise this year. Many areas pertaining to defence, security, border and military exchanges have been discussed and an understanding has been built. It should augur well for both the countries because they are expected to play significant role in the Asian continent. India and China are so big that the question of one annihilating the other as a rival does not arise. It is just impossible for them to think and behave in inimical ways. Contrarily cooperation and understanding can build a strong economic relationship and they can dominate the Asian trade if there is good understanding between them. India and China together have one third of world's total population. This enormous source of energy has to be diverted for constructive purposes. It is good if China has changed its ageold habit of grabbing the land of her neighbours and returns to the policy of live and let live. She has been claiming various areas along the border with India which are unjustifiable and hence a source of irritation between the two. China has done well to give up the dream of grabbing the land of her neighbours but has to remain contented with what she has. That will ensure regional peace.
