Kashmir Bhawan Calling  January 2009

Rakesh Kaul  General Secretary Kashmir Samiti

Kashmiri Samiti Delhi condoled the Sad demise of Shri JN Kaul who attained nirvana on December 16, 2008. The meeting started with two minutes silence observed in memory of the departed soul. All the participants in the meeting paid rich tributes to Shri Kaul for his outstanding contribution to the community. He was very social. sympathetic and religious personality and his approach to the problems of KPs was always practical and he was instrumental in setting up training centres for boys and girls and also some religious institutions etc. In his death we have lost a great scholar, a great philosopher and a man with a vision who really was a torchbearer for the community. He is no more with us today but his ideology and his working style will always guide us in rendering service to the community. The best tribute to Shri Kaul is to follow his ideology.

We observe 25 December every year as Dedication Day when we rededicate ourselves to the community cause and on this day we felicitate those members of the community whose contribution is outstanding in various fields and also in rendering the community services. A cultural programme is also presented on this day.

KSD decided not to observe 25 December 2008 and the entire programme for this day were cancelled as a mark of respect for Shri J N Kaul.

The J&K Assembly elections concluded peacefully and the new government is already in office. This election was different than the previous ones. There was no violence and Kashmiri Muslims came out in large numbers to vote.

In this atmosphere of hope where it looks that normally is returning in Kashmir, there is one community for which nothing has changed and they continue to live in exile and face all the miseries in camps in Jammu and Delhi and continue to live as refugees in their own country.

In this election about fifty KPs also contested from different constituencies in the valley and the entire KP community boycotted these polls responding to the call given by KSD, with the result all these candidates not only got miserably defeated but lost their security deposits as well If we analyse the sequence of events, it is clear that there was a conspiracy to involve some KPs in the elections process by giving them certain benefits to convey the message that complete normalcy has returned to Kashmir and displacement of KP community is all over. This was really unfortunate that our own people betrayed our community and joined the fray for their own interests. They claim themselves to be leaders of the community and represent some so-called frontline organisations, but they were not in a position to get even a hundred votes and have brought only shame to this community. The need of the time is not only to identify these elements but they should be disowned and punished for damaging the community cause.
