Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan P Singh's visit to Kashmir should hope for better days to come in Kashmir. In the sense of militancy that dies out and normalcy returns. Normalcy which has been at premium since last twenty years. But indications are that things are not going to be normal again in Kashmir for some time to come.
Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani is already hardening his stance and telling everyone around that talks have never yielded any fruitful results in Kashmir. What he wants is that India should without reservations handed over Kashmir on a platter to Pakistan. Geelani is a typical religious leader who talks language of Jahad to oust India from Kashmir.
Apparently, reasonable Omar Farooq is a captive of Pakistan ideology also. He is in the same league as Sayed Geelani with the difference that latter is rabidly fanatical. Of course, both the leaders are riding on the crest of Muslim sentiments of seeking Kashmir secede from India.
Coming back to Prime Minister's visit one can say with certainty that nothing concrete will come out of the talks Hurriyat's hardline position is known as is Govt. of India's stand. In the process Kashmiri Pandits have suffered the worst, they have lost their much cherished homeland which they had nurtured all through history for five thousand years. It is well known that Pandits were forced to flee their ancestral land. Reams have been written on it. Yet it will be not to say that Islamic terrorism was the sole factor for their forcible exodus.
Prime Minister is welcomed to initiate talks for no Govt. can survive on negative mindset. On the other hand Hurriyat must be hoping for some major concessions from Govt. of India. Both the parties know each other stories and will continue to hold position. Both hope that one party should lose so that the other gains concessions and subsequent gains ascendancy. Let us hope that Government of India does not come under Hurriyat pressure. For our hopes lie with Govt. of India. It needs to talking that only Govt. of India can see our return to beloved Kashmir safely, if they are defeated, Kashmiri Pandits are equally defeated. That is why KPs want Govt. to be in firm control of Kashmir. Hurriyat has no such desire. Their fight is against infidel India and nothing else. The sooner it understood by the world the better.
