The Message From Jammu
A K Kaul Editor Koshur Samachar , 2004
We have with us a copy of the twelve resolutions adopted at the AIKS conclave on June 19-20, 2004 at Jammu. These resolutions seemingly point to the slow but sure emergence of a consensus in the community. It has been gratifying to note that the AIKS has realised the need for a broad accommodation and has thus attempted to include all the prevailing views. It is also true that KSD had put up a policy paper to the conclave, which, unfortunately, was ignored. That should not have happened. In any case the ordinary KPS and his cause have been well served.
We believe the Message from Jammu has made a good beginning in assigning to the community a strong sense of purpose and direction. It now devolves upon the AIKS and its affiliated units as also those groups which are not affiliated to it, to build on the new ground with great understanding and cooperation in a spirit of give and take. The AIKS, it has to be said, has, unfortunately, been very sloth in developing proper communications. It can no more afford to confine itself to the four walls of D-90, Sarojini Nagar, where strategies and policies are formulated by a few individuals, who don't, necessarily, represent the entire spectrum of the community. It has to be a dynamic outfit which must develop regular communications with all shades of opinion. It also is a fact that a number of individuals masquerading as leaders are presently busy mounting campaigns against individuals and organisations. They have personal agendas. The AIKS leadership must beware of it and thwart all such attempts. In this whole process individual prejudices have no place. The leadership, both at the AIKS and at unit levels, has to put a stop to all the machinations of these individuals. Too many rumours are afloat about some individuals being targetted.
They must be reigned in or else the whole edifice will collapse. Those who had a role in bringing AIKS centre stage in 1986, firmly believe that if AIKS experiment fails nothing will succeed. This is a very critical period for the community and the need of the hour is accommodation, reconciliation, respecting each others' view point and strictly avoiding areas of conflict. We would hate to see AIKS in competition with its affiliated units. Earning brownie points here and there and then going to town to tom tom about them is most unwarranted. This is the time to put a check to individual egos. AIKS, by it very nature, has to take the lead in this connection.
For reasons best known to them the organisers of the Jammu conclave chose to keep Samachar out of it. That is another matter. The Message from Jammu is, nevertheless, a positive step forward.
