Shri Virender Kumar Mathu S/O Smt. Durga and Sh. Moti Lal Mathu, resident of Zaindar Mohalla, Habbakadal, Srinagar, Kashmir, was honoured with "Indira Gandhi Solidarity Award-94" for his outstanding contribution to the fields of Civil Engineering and Environment. The award was presented to him by Union Minister of State for Home, Sh. P.M. Sayyed, at a function in New Delhi.

This award is presented every year to distinguished persons from various walks of life for their out-standing contribution to their respective fields.

Sh. Mathu also received another prestigious award ‘Hind Gaurav Award-94’ for his individual achievements. The award was presented to him by Union Minister of State for Non-conventional Energy & Agriculture, Sh. S. Krishna Kumar. Minister of State far Foreign Affairs Sh. R.L. Bhatia was also present on the occasion.

Er. Mathu, after doing graduation in Engineering in 1980, from Nagpur University, was working in Bombay for some' time, before setting down at Ahmednagar in 1984. Apart from his professional practice as consulting project engineer, Sh. Mathu is involved in many professional and social organisations.
