In and Around the Metropolis- The KECSS Library and Reading Room
The Kashmir Education, Culture and Science Society Library, situated at B-36, Pamposh Enclave, stocks over 4000 books, including about 400 volumes of children's literature. Manned by a part-time Assistant Librarian, the classification of all the books is not complete, though he is trying to cope with the job. The Reading Room receives three daily newspapers-one in Hindi, two in English-and fifteen journals, including Koshur Samachar, donated by the members. Unfortunately, very few people make use of the facility, and more readers should feel encouraged to become regular visitors to the Library.
The newly elected Executive Committee of the KECSS has set up a sub-committee of six members to look after the Library and Reading Room. They are: S/Shri H.N. Nehru (Convener), S.L. Raina, L.C. Kaul, M.L. Pandit, M.L. Kaul, and B.N. Kaul-all from Pamposh Enclave.
There is provision for five more members from outside Pamposh Enclave to be added to the sub committee. Efforts are on to start activities like a Readers' Forum, and to initiate other allied activities. The object is to make the Library and Reading Room the meeting point for the members and the neighborhood.
