On the occasion of Shaheed Prem Nath Bhat Award function 2009 organized by Pt. Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust, Avtar Bhat of Daily Excelsior and Zaffar Choudhary of Early Times were presented this year's memorial award with cash prize of Rs. 5000 each by the Minister Mr. R. S. Chib. Speaking on the occasion the Minister stated that KPsa have suffered a lot during last 20 years of turmoil after they were forced to leave their homes and hearths in the Valley. He said that the Prime Minister and State
Chief Minister are very particular to redress the problems of displaced community. Paying tributes to Pt. Prem Nath Bhat, the Minister said that while the judiciary is an important pillar of democracy, the press is called its fourth estate and Pt. Prem Nath Bhat was linked to both and was a sober man who served the nation in maintaining unity and integrity. As a leader of the community Lt. Bhat had a true faith in secularism, the Minister added.
Sh. Yesh Bhasin, Trustee, highlighted the role of the trust and stated that the award was instituted by the Trust in 1990 and since then about 100 amateurs , journalists were presented such award and later the , trust decided to give away this prize to working journalists.
Justice Syed Bashir-u-Din chairman, State Human Rights Commission who was guest of honour, paid rich tributes to Late P. N. Bhat and termed him a true secularist.
The function was chaired by Dr. Roop Lal Educationist and social activist recalled the service of Late Bhat said that the journalist should be bold and a fearless.
P. K. Joseph Dhar a renowned educationist, termed Late Bhat a great human being and an embodiment of patriotism. He said that Late Bhat boldly made press a aware of the facts of happening of 1989 and did note hesitate in pointing his fingers at political blunders of Himalyan magnitude and warned political agents about the inimical dangers.
