Ravi Prakash Langer Making Waves in Ujjain
A respected and hard-working Kashmiri Pandit. Raviprakash Langer of Ujjain (MP), has brought honour to the community by his recent election to the office of Governor, Rotary District 3040, one of the 31 Districts in the area comprising India, Bangladesh and Pakistan out of 506 such districts on the international level.
According to information provided by Rotarian (Rtn.) Ajay Bhargav, President, Rotary Club, Ujjain (Sati Darwaja, Ujjain-456006) Rtn Raviprakash Langer was born on 21st April, 1952 at Ujjain MP Soon after doing his post-graduation in Chemistry he obtained authorised dealership of Indian Oil Corporation and started a retail outlet (petrol pump) at Ujjain. He expanded his business to cover Automobile Service and Transportation of Petro- leum Products. Recently he has taken in hand a project for setting up oil/lubricants refining/blending plant.
He joined Rotary Club of Ujjain in 1979 and has since been one of the most dedicated Rotarians Having served the club in various capacities, he was nominated president of the club for two years in succession i.e. 1991-92 and 1992-93. Under his leadership the Rotary Club of Ujjain was rejuvenated, its membership was more than doubled, a new club namely 'Rotary Club of Ujjain Greater' was added. Many new activities such as Eye Camps, Cancer detection & awareness camps were introduced as a regular feature. Financial assistance in a big way was also organised under his leadership to alleviate the sufferings of the Ayodhyakand riot affected families. Of late Careto Plasty facility has also been started for the first time in Ujjain and is being run very successfully under his stewardship. In appreciation of the services rendered by Rotarian Raviprakash Langer, he received the 'District Governor's Citation Award, in 1992. During his Rotary career of 16 years he has attended 9 Dist. Conferences, 6 Dist. Assemblies, 6 Intercity Meets and 2 P.E.T. Seminars. He is a life-member of Indian Red Cross Society, and a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF).
Besides being a devoted Rotarian, Raviprakash Langer has many feathers in his cap. He is Secretary of Friends of Soviet Union unit of Ujjain District, President of M.P. Acrobatic Association, Past President of Ujjain Petrol Dealers Association for 7 President of Ujjain Body Builders Association, Ujjain Kisan Sangh, and Shri Achutyanand Akhada, a very prestigious 130-year old institution of Ujjain. He is known for selfless service and association with invariably every benevolent activity in the town. His hobbies are Chess, Cricket, Badminton & Yoga.
Raviprakash Langer was married on 14th Oct.'78 to Dr. Nalini Langer who has done her Doctorate in Physical Chemistry. She has been a moving spirit behind the functioning of Inner Wheel at Ujjain and has been its president for 1993-94 and 1994- 95. She has been nominated as District Editor for 1995-96. She is an excellent speaker and is well- known amongst the Rotarians and members of the Inner Wheel in the Rotary District 3040 and has, by popular demand, choreographed many functions, conferences and assemblies. Ravi & Nalini Langer have two bright children.
Daughter Ritika, aged 12 years, is schooling at St. Mary's Convent and has already obtained Jr. Diploma in Kathak from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. Son Rochak, aged 11 years, is also schooling at St. Mary's Convent. He is interested in gymnastics and has represented Ujjain at the State Junior gymnastic competition.
