1995 06 Secure accommodation for newly-employed boys and girls

Shri J.N. Kaul, President, All India Kashmiri Samaj (D-90, Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi-110023) has appealed to members of the community living in and around Delhi, to help in finding secure accommodation for young boys and girls who have found placement here recently. The appeal dated May 26, 1995, says:

The Third Computer Course for young men and women sponsored by AIKS will shortly come to a close. There have been 15 girls and 20 youngmen under training. Apart from understanding and learning computer languages and practice, the trainees went through a comprehensive programme consisting of physical education, language improvement personally. turnout which has really helped them to prepare for placement in trade and industrial establishments.

The good news is that all the 15 girls and quite a few youngmen have been found placement in some of the leading companies in and near Delhi. Their initial salaries would start around Rs. 1800 and go to about Rs. 2500 p.m. in a few cases.

Arrangements have now to be made to find appropriate accommodation for most of them so that they can continue to live in Delhi to go to their places of work. A few of them have possibilities of living with some friends or relations.

You will recall that we have already 5 Working Women's Hostels in NOIDA where 53 girls from Jammu Camps have been working in different factories and offices for almost a year now. They regularly send 600 to 800 rupees per month back to their families living in very difficult conditions in camps. Now that it will be possible to find appointments for another 15 computer-trained girls, it will help another 15 families to live a little better life and to meet some of their basic needs.

I am writing this specially to ask for your cooperation in finding secure accommodation for youngmen and especially women. I suggest that if some families could offer one or two places we could also take up many more young people from the camps for training and employment which I believe is the only way to help these families on a permanent basis. My visits to the different camps have convinced me that unless and until a permanent source of additional income is found there is no way to save these families from misery.

Do please come forward and give us the addresses of the families who would be prepared to accept them and help the survival of these displaced and dispossessed people.
